Westport United, based in county Mayo in the west of Ireland, posted an open letter yesterday to their Facebook page written by an anonymous volunteer coach.

In it, the coach notes that they heard mumblings behind their back about the way they coach the team, and aims to point out to everyone that they don’t get paid for what they do. In fact, the team would probably not exist without their hard work.

The same is true for grassroots teams across the world, and is a reminder that all volunteers giving up their free time should be respected and thanked for the job they do.
